Community Bulletin Board...
Just like the original version of the Social Work Cafe, this is where EVERYONE is invited to post his or her announcements. For example, some organizations have used the CBB for posting job openings, advertising their company website, or publicizing Requests for Proposals. Students have used this area to ask for help with term papers. Some social workers are just looking for professional contacts because they have moved to a new service area.

*There is no limit to the amount of time an announcement can be posted on this page, unless instructed by the author of the original request.

All postings are done FREE of charge! Remember to type "CBB" in the subject box. Please send any comments, ads, or requests to:

My name is Amy Lynn and I wanted to say hello! I'm excited to be a part of this forum and I hope to learn from you and also share what I can from my experiences.

I'm an LCPC and registered art therapist (ATR) practicing in Chicago's Lakeview and Logan Square neighborhoods. I work with women, children and families. In my holistic approach to treatment, I use art therapy, psychotherapy and other expressive therapies, in addition to collaboration with other healing professionals. I offer individual and family therapy, as well as art-based wellness workshops.

My interests and background specifically include helping women through life transitions like pregnancy, new motherhood and career change, in addition to helping women cope with life stressors, such as caregiver distress, postpartum depression, grief & loss, and general "superwoman overload." I also help children and adolescents who have experienced trauma, loss, and difficult family situations, and find that art therapy is especially helpful with this population. I have extensive experience working with people with disabilities, including autism spectrum disorders, developmental disabilities and behavior disorders, and offer school-based consultations for children having difficulties. My degree is in Marriage and Family Therapy, and I really enjoy working with families when applicable. If you are interested in learning more about my practice, I have a website -
www.amylynntherapist.com

I really enjoy networking and I welcome collaborating you. Please feel free to contact me any time. I look forward to getting to know you!

Networking between USA and Canada

As a PSU student in 2003, I was part of a contingency of Oregon Psychiatric and Social Work students who visited mental health, addictions, and other key social service sights in Vancouver, BC including those located in the Downtown Eastside of Vancouver. In part, because of lasting positive impressions from that brief experience, I am interested in networking with Canadian Social Work professionals or agencies who have information regarding US citizens gaining sponsorship and/ or a work visa toward social work employment opportunities in Canada. I am primarily interested in relocation to Western Canada such as BC or Alberta. (I am happy to provide reciprocal information for those interested in social work regulations/ licensing requirements, educational, or other social work-related opportunities in California or Oregon).

Culture and Mental Health: Emerging Trends in Psychotherapy is an international non-profit conference presented by
The World Psychiatric Association.

US Citizens:

1. Can U.S. citizens attend this conference?
The Office of Foreign Assets Control (OFAC) of the U.S. Department of the Treasure authorizes travel to Cuba for attending meetings/conferences or professional research. Meetings/conferences must be organized by an international professional organization, institution, or association headquartered outside the United States and that regularly sponsors events held in other countries.

This conference, organized by the World Psychiatric Association, meets these requirements.

To be eligible to travel under this general license for the attendance of this conference on psychotherapy and social work, U.S. citizens must be able to demonstrate that they are engaged in full-time work related to mental health. A resume or a curriculum vitae is generally sufficient to establish your full-time professional work.

For further information on the regulations, please see
http://www.treas.gov/offices/enforcement/ofac/programs/cuba/cuba.shtml

2. As an American engaged in full-time mental health work, do I have to apply for a visa or approval from the Office of Foreign Assets Control (OFAC) before travelling?
If you meet the criteria set by the general license (see above), then you do not need prior written approval. If you should decide to make your travel arrangements to Cuba through an OFAC-authorized travel service provider such as Marazul Charters Inc. (see below), you may be asked to fill out an affidavit affirming that you qualify for this general license. But please note, the travel service provider is not responsible for deciding eligibility; their service consists of making your travel arrangements and co-ordinating all paperwork (e.g. resumes, program details) to assist your passage through U.S. Customs.

I would love to hear from other social workers who work in hospital and other settings to help give me a broader view of the world of social work. It would be useful to gather an international perspective, which would be invaluable especially when working with students. I would be happy to share thoughts on practice within the Northern Ireland/UK context.
